Miller Fluid Power began in June of 1941, when Frank Flick, a graduate engineer and marine engine salesman, and William Reedy, an accountant and Frank Flick's former schoolmate, formed a partnership and purchased the Miller Motor Company of Chicago, a small concern which manufactured marine engines for foreign markets.
Miller revolutionized the industrial cylinder business with their unique square head and cap tie rod cylinder. The Miller cylinder quickly became the industry standard and, ultimately, the current NFPA cylinder standards were written around its design.
