DC SCR Drives

A DC SCR Drive combination is a cost-effective alternative to an AC adjustable speed drive.  This combo works best in applications requiring low horsepower, smooth, stepless speed control and reverse and/or braking capabilities.

With DC motors, the speed is controlled simply by varying the voltage applied to the armature. The more voltage, the higher the speed.

Adding an SCR allows simple voltage variability simply by turning the knob and thereby the speed of the motor.   SCR controls get their name from the silicon controlled rectifiers (SCRs) they use to convert the AC current to DC

DC SCR drives offer good speed control and efficiency and are cost effective in applications requiring less horsepower (sub-fractional to 2 HP) where there is a need for stop/start, forward/reverse and adjustable speed control.
