Sales & Management Trainee



Job Definition: As a "Draft" Sales and Management  Trainee within the 10 to 15 month of accelerated training program, you will be responsible for completing all the components associated with the BDI Draft Program in Sales and Management including the duties of all positions under the umbrella of BDI's Sales and Operations departments for future placement within the BDI family.

Responsibilities: (Progressively over a 10 to 15 month Period)

  1. Expected to participate and complete all training exercises including, but not limited to; Sales Training, Product Training, Computer Training, and BDI Operations training.
  2. Responsible for pulling orders from warehouse stock for shipment to BDI customers and branches.
  3. Responsible for packing, shipping, and receiving orders from and to BDI customers, suppliers, and branches.
  4. Responsible for answering telephone calls from outside customers and assisting them in their needs, such as identifying and interchanging product.
  5. Will be expected to enter and maintain all sales orders, including releasing orders on credit hold, and expediting previous orders.
  6. Will also be expected to accurately quote product to the customer.
  7. Can expect to capture over-the-counter sales with walk in customers.
  8. Occasionally will purchase product directly from the manufacturer.
  9. Responsible for maintaining and actively servicing existing BDI customers assigned to a specific sales region by performing various duties including areas such as product quotation and problem resolution.
  10. Expected to capture new business opportunities within current customers through numerous strategies such as new product introduction, account targeting, and marketing the current product line.
  11. Will identify, and actively pursue new business opportunities to expand the current customer base by working with management in developing sales strategies and new account targeting.
  12. Expected to work closely with suppliers to market and sell new and current products.
  13. Responsible for other duties as they are assigned.

Education & Experience: H.S. Diploma or GED required, Bachelor's Degree or 2 year diploma in Business or Marketing preferred. 1-2 years in a sales environment a plus, with additional experience in the Industrial Supply Industry or comparable market also preferred. Applicant must possess communication and presentation skills to be successful in the BDI Draft Program. The individual must be highly self-motivated with the ability to motivate others. Applicant must also possess an above average degree of Mechanical aptitude with the demonstrated ability to organize and multi-task. Applicant must also be able and willing to relocate to any open positions within the United States.
